We visited one of these factories in shanghai a few years ago. My father in law used to be a manager in one of these places and he gave us a tour. Basically lots of people doing simple repetative tasks. He said that they employed thousands from the country side and that there was a huge turnover rate. I can just imagine the massive databases that they would have to employ to manage and track the employees. Besides lots of places that looked like the pictures above, we saw dozens of administrative cubibles full of women (we saw no men) whose only purpose would probably be tons of data entry.
